This role is a junior position assisting the estimating team by providing accurate, technically compliant and timely quotations and completing ad hoc jobs to support the finance team when required. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a team with a manager who started their career as a business administrator apprentice.


The Junior Estimator Apprentice will be responsible for 2 main functions: estimating and finance


  • Evaluate request for quote (RFQ) and determine compliant solutions from within the Coopers Fire product range.
  • Prepare and review quotations issued to ensure accurate and complete based on information and drawings provided.
  • Ensure margins quoted at are as agreed by the business based on product type and market sold to.
  • Highlight major projects to management for pricing review.
  • Evaluate customers needs and ensuring the most relevant/cost effective solution for each enquiry is provided.
  • Accurate and timely completion of project information to the CRM system to provide visibility of quotations to the wider business.
  • Develop customer relationships with repeat customers and distributors.
  • Liaise with other Coopers Fire departments to ensure customer needs are met.


  • Finished goods process – allocating and issuing stock in Sage 50
  • Creating journal entries in Sage 50
  • Petty Cash reconciliation
  • Ad hoc jobs to support accounts department (filing, locating invoices, chasing purchase invoices and retention, VAT reconciliation, stocktake and checking export documentation)

Skills and Experience

It is essential that the Junior Estimator Apprentice has good knowledge of Microsoft Office software (particularly Excel), as well as being IT literate and numerate. Other essential criteria includes:

  • Good customer service & communication skills
  • Customer focus approach
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritise customer requests and work to tight deadlines
  • Strong communication skills with internal stakeholders
  • Self-motivated, confident and resourceful

Personal qualities

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment

Qualifications required

  • GCSE’s in maths and English with at least a grade C/4 or equivalent

Future Prospects

There will be the opportunity to move into a full-time role upon completion of the apprenticeship.

Training to be provided

Level 3 Business Administrator Apprenticeship Standard. You will complete a 15-month apprenticeship which includes 10 days at the PETA training centre in Cosham. You will be supported every 6 weeks with visits from your PETA Learning & Development Coach.
